A broad, unhurried prelude in four parts that opens over a long held bass note. Long notes, ties and suspensions reward following the inner voices as well as the top line. II begins to develop the opening idea, and with IV a long of the opening ideas starts in F major, a fourth higher than the home . A short comes back over the opening bass note.
